DIETER MORSZECK FOUNDATION

High-throughput infrastructure for the serological analysis of blood samples

The Dieter Morszeck Foundation has provided one million euros in funding to set up a high-throughput infrastructure for the serological analysis of blood samples at the German Cancer Research Center (DKFZ). The technology makes it possible to examine large groups of people for acute or previous infections with viruses or bacteria.

The platform was initially used to enable the detection of antibodies against SARS-CoV-2 and other coronaviruses on a large scale. In the long term, the methodology will now be used to investigate the extent to which certain viruses and bacteria are partly responsible for the development of cancers.
